The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten) asked Bruynzeel to help in the storage of its fragile, oversized and protected artworks while its main exhibition space was being renovated. Bruynzeel designed and supplied pull-out framed artwork shelves and shelving racks for the secure basement store, to house artworks that could not leave the museum because they were too fragile, too large, or unavailable for loan.

The solution

Bruynzeel installed the following systems: a 500 m² platform with shelf racks for storing statues and artwork; 4,000 m² pull-out painting frames and hanging frames which allow the museum’s 1,300 paintings to be moved in and out of storage without vibration or noise. Bruynzeel also installed a picture racking system on a mobile wheeled base, designed specifically for the storage of the large paintings, situated under the exhibition space access hatch on the floor above.
