The Keep required a modern, flexible storage system to meet all its requirements. Bruynzeel provided a range of mobile archive shelving over the three floors with shelving runs greater than 12m in length featuring more than 30 different bay configurations, offering maximum flexibility with areas of expansion as the collection grows. The ground floor archive, for example, was chosen as the storage location for oversize materials such as tithe maps and plans. To optimize the available space for oversize media, 220 specialist plan chests were supplied, which not only housed the plans but accommodated the rolled maps in the shelving above. Each bank of the mobile systems on each floor are colour coded and allowed the user to move 35 tonnes of stored items with the minimum of effort, using Bruynzeel’s smooth-running hand cranked system. The total amount of shelving supplied to The Keep measures more than 14,000 linear metres.
